Best DnD Merch Guide

The world’s most famous tabletop roleplaying game introduces us to daring adventures, exciting worlds, and, inevitably, a great desire for shiny number rocks. The world of Dungeons and Dragons is massive and, since 1974, has become an unyielding pillar of geek and nerd culture.

I have had the pleasure of enjoying the adventure with everyone else for the past seven years. Along the way, I gained new companions, crafted worlds as a Dungeon Master, and enjoyed playing the hero as well.

The game, for me, will always be remembered as a significant cultural event that I’ve become a part of.

As a cultural phenomenon, the game itself has several iconic elements attributed to it. One of the biggest parts of this is the game itself, which is an elaborate participative story you can take part in. Sometimes, however, playing with friends isn’t enough.

It happens to the best of us adventurers. You’ve just finished an epic session of Dungeons and Dragons; you and your friends had a great time, but your next adventure is days away, and you need your DnD fix now!

Luckily, there is so much more to DnD than the game. While you enjoy your downtime, there’s an entire magical world of merchandise to discover in between sessions. Books, dice, figurines, and more abound and flutter about like the planes of the multiverse for you to explore.

Welcome to a Guide to the Best DnD Merch.

Exploring the World of DnD Merch

DnD merch has many items that are almost necessary to enjoy playing the game. Meanwhile, some serve to immerse yourself in your favorite adventuring hobby simply.

What is important is that through these different sets of merchandise, you can surround yourself with all items DnD and show how much you enjoy this hobby.

Where to start your DnD merchandise quest, however, is something many new players often fumble at. To the inexperienced, the world of shopping and selling is almost as conniving as the courts of Waterdeep.

Without a trusty and loyal guide, you may be disappointed and scammed by the tempting promise of merchandise.

Many sellers may simply be individuals rolling high on deception checks with fake merchandise designed to make some quick cash at your expense. Some of these may provide quality output, but you never know if you can truly trust them, and that is a risk you must decide on your own.

True DnD players will try as much as possible to support Wizards of the Coast, the current game developers who give their all for the game. However, you may need some advantages and inspiration to find the merchandise you can enjoy while supporting the hobby.

But never fear! This article is a trusty companion to the different types of merchandise you can collect and acquire. Like the book of exalted deeds, this is a guide from an old adventurer who bids you good luck in your search for Dungeons and Dragons Merchandise.

DnD Merch: Buying Guide

As you go to look and buy merchandise, there are a couple of things you should keep in mind. The first is that some DnD merch is integral to playing the game, and some are simply there as accessories. Read on these two categories to give you a better idea of the type of merch you are looking for.

Tools of the Trade

This type of merchandise is mainly used for running and playing the game itself. These include dice, source books, and other in-game supplements.

While you may find counterparts of these with digital software, nothing beats the feeling of an in-person DnD adventure. When you find yourself in one, these not only help the game run much smoother but add variety and content to your already amazing games.

These types of items are often directly sold by Wizards of the Coast themselves or by reputable distributors. If you need to directly support the game developers, these are what you need to buy as they are the primary product to fund the game.

Trinkets and Curios

The other types of merchandise are DnD-related products that are not necessary to run the game. Instead, they lean heavily into that world to bring you items that you find fun and entertaining.

Most of these items come from distributors that have a partnership with Wizards of the Coast or, very rarely, come directly from them. These items serve to surround you with more paraphernalia to increase your enjoyment.

DnD Merch: Inventory Check

Down below are some of the best pieces of merchandise you can buy. To save you some time, these are grouped according to themes. This allows you to check whether these are game accessories or external merch to enjoy.

Game Tools and Source Books of Power

As promised, first up, we have some game tools and accessories which you can buy for your game itself. Most of these are available from the Wizards of the Coast affiliated stores, but more often than not, these are at hundreds of other distributors internationally. Let’s take a look at some of the best pieces you can buy

Source Books and Manuals

Source Books and Manuals

There is absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to the classics when it comes to DnD merch. A sourcebook is an official Wizards of the Coast published book that is part of the current fifth edition campaign.

Among these books, you can expect hundreds of pages of new adventures, monsters, classes, magic items, and even more. This treasure trove of new material is the perfect place to start.

Not only are you learning the ropes of DnD, but you’re supporting the developers as well, as this is the game’s main product. Here are a few of the essential books to grab while you can.

  • The Players Handbook
  • The Dungeon Master’s Guide
  • The Monster Manual
  • A Content Book of your choice
  • A Campaign Book of your choice

I’ll be honest; if I talked about every single DnD sourcebook out there, I would take up more time from you than the time it takes to finish a campaign. Instead, let’s focus on a few gems.

For starters, most of these books should be available at your local game store or in select bookstores worldwide. If all else fails, your trusty online seller is bound to have you covered.

These books, on average, range from 20 to 30 dollars, but rare books will, of course, demand higher price points. Take note as well that your retailers may add certain margins to their products.

If you have the means and the knowledge of where to buy these tomes, grab yourself the Players Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual quickly.

These are the core of any campaign, and they cover all the basics for a great campaign. Within these, you’ll be able to figure out how to set up a campaign, play as a player, and interact in your amazing world!

To spice things up, you may want a content book that gives more interesting subclasses and options for you to explore. Or, get a campaign book and see your party through some of the best tales that fantasy has to offer. No matter what the case, a DnD book is an amazing first buy for merchandise.

Mighty Miniatures

Mighty Miniatures

While Dungeons and Dragons is a game of imagination, there’s nothing wrong with a few bits of realism to enhance your experience. The most effective way of doing so is through miniatures that represent some of the most beloved characters inside your campaign.

A miniature is a small-scale version of a character that you can use to position on a battle mat or piece of terrain. By doing so, you get a closer look at intense combat scenarios and truly live in the moment.

Miniatures come in all shapes and sizes, literally. But some of the best miniatures come from Wizkids, a Wizards of the Coast affiliated store that has just about every miniature there is. From towering dragon gods like Tiamat to humble peasants, watch your world come alive!

Before you go buying all of these, keep in mind that bigger and rare pieces will cost you. Additionally, you have the option of having them come in painted or unpainted forms, so choose wisely!

Dice and Dice Accessories

Dice and Dice Accessories

I won’t lie to you. You’ll probably go through a dice phase, and who can blame you? Out of all possible merchandise, dice are the nearest and dearest to a player’s heart.

A roll of the die can represent anything; the blow that falls a great evil or the saving throw that dodges certain death. As such, players and dungeon masters ascribe certain superstitions to their fate rocks of choice.

It is practically impossible to play DnD without dice, and there’s nothing quite like rolling a physical set. Most dice and dice accessories are below the 20-dollar range. Here are a few dice and dice accessories to determine your character’s fate in the adventures to come.

  • Dice, acrylic, and metal
  • Dice trays
  • Dice towers
  • Dice bags

There are a lot of dice and dice sets to choose from; as an adventurer, you want at least one seven-dice set. Most dice are acrylic, but some are made of metal as well. What you want to consider when buying is whether the dice attunes to you. My favorite dice set got me a natural 20 on my first d20 roll.

Believe it or not, you’ll know what I’m talking about when you roll that dice, so buy a set or a dozen to be sure. Get your dice from licensed shops such as Ultra Pro or Chessex to roll with the punches.

Meanwhile, to prevent your dice from spilling everywhere, you’ll want a dice tray and a dice tower. Not only do they keep your dice from flying across the table to realms unknown, but you also protect your table from the impact of heavy dice.

Dice towers are basically cooler versions of dice trays that do the same thing but give you +5 to charisma.

Finally, you wouldn’t be caught dead, keeping your dice in an unsafe spot. Keep them all in one spot with a dice bag or pouch. With so many cool designs to choose from, you’ll wish you had more dice to buy pouches for!

Battle Mats and Content Cards

Battle Mats and Content Cards

The last piece of merchandise you need to make the game run smoother is a good battle mat and a content reminder in the form of content cards. Here are a few reasons you’ll need them:

  • Streamlines Combat
  • Prevents Confusing Plays
  • Quick Verification
  • They look really cool

A battle mat is necessary because the game itself uses squares as a measure of distance. Spells, movement, and several area effects need everyone to be aware of the distance between them and other entities. A battle mat allows everyone to strategize and act on the same level.

Content Cards

Meanwhile, a content card serves to quickly recall important information in the heat of the moment. Spells, what items do, and monster stats are all information that you can find on these, often with interesting effects and designs.

Knowing what they do in a jiffy allows everyone to have fun without quibbling too much over rules.

Altogether, these in-game accessories and merchandise work together to give you some memorable adventures. Whether through streamlined play or because it looks dang awesome, consider picking a few of them up at partner stores worldwide.

DnD Decor and Extra Content

Outside the game and the merch for it, you can still immerse yourself in some amazing fantasy aesthetics. The realm of DnD allows us to take a break from the real world and imagine life elsewhere where magic and wonder await us.

With these items, you can bring that magic to your office or home with a quick purchase.

Plushies and Beddings

Plushies and Beddings

The experience of a short or long rest is made all the better with a soft plushie or pillow to relax on. Luckily, these monster plushies aren’t out to get you at all. Some of them might eat your dice, though, so be warned.

These plushies and assorted beddings are designed for comfort. While you won’t need to pay for an aristocratic lifestyle to enjoy their benefits, expect 10 to 20 dollars to be as fair a bargain as possible.

Many company collaborations with Wizards by the likes of the Jay Franco store and Ultra Pro are guaranteed to scratch your itch. Browse their wares and find something for you!

Home Decor for Your Halls

Home Decor for Your Halls

What better way to tell of your past exploits than by decorating the halls of your home with trophies and other wondrous decors. With these amazing pieces from Wiz Kids, you’re guaranteed to have to make an epic story to match your interesting decor.

Choose from some of the most iconic villains of the realms and display their remains. From fearful ancient red dragons to the hand and eye of Vecna, your decor will be second to none.

Just as these villainous foes require heroic blows to vanquish, so might your wallet suffer one. For home decor, maps and banners range from 60 dollars, while entire trophy pieces may cost upwards of a hundred.

Place these pieces in strategic locations around your house to be conversation pieces. Who knows, you might even recruit a few novice adventurers to your game.

Fiction Books and Graphic Novels

Fiction Books and Graphic Novels

I have a sentimental place in my heart for a good fiction book set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. A decade ago, I got a book containing the Dragonlance Chronicles set in the world of Krynn as my first piece of DnD merch.

Years later, while diving through used bookshops, I would find a collectors edition of the Dark Elf Trilogy containing the stories of Drizzt do’Urden.

Fantasy books and graphic novels are perfect for when you want to escape reality for a while and want to get to know the official world of DnD. In those pages and comics, you’ll meet characters from the campaigns and figure out their stories. Here are a few classic DnD fiction books to explore:

  • The Icewind Dale Trilogy
  • The Dragonlance Chronicles
  • The Dark Elf Trilogy
  • The Raistlin Chronicles
  • The Elminster Series

I’ll keep the contents of the books under wraps for now, but head over to any bookshop or go online. You will be met with a gripping tale of sword and sorcery that’ll make you wish you were able to play in that as a campaign.

Nonfiction Books and Supplementary Material

Nonfiction Books and Supplementary Material

While I do enjoy a good fiction book, my favorite piece of merchandise has to be a nonfiction book about an amazing fictional world. Combining both of these keeps me grounded in my reality but willing to explore creativity and options to bring the fantasy world to life.

I found the Heroes’ Feast D&D cookbook an amazing read. After creating some hearty Travelers’ Stew, I was able to appreciate how I could enjoy something from that world instead of longing for it.

Other nonfiction books tend to do the same thing, giving you scenes and images of fantasy worlds, detailing lore and content without the trappings of a fiction book. A nonfiction book recognizes that this is a portal to that world and that your perspective in the real one is valid.

All of this merchandise serve as constant reminders that there is a world out there to discover and that sometimes, the line between that world and ours is fuzzier than we might think. To get the best of both worlds, make sure to shop for these items and snap them up before they run out!

Wondrous Clothes and Accessories

Wondrous Clothes and Accessories

For something a little more personal, consider buying personal accessories and clothes. What better way to show your love for DnD than through your gear? While it may not be as flashy as glamerweave or a legendary wondrous item, it’ll surely impress everyone else.

Clothing may seem like the easiest merch to get, but there’s more to it. You want to ensure that your style is present in the merchandise you buy. You might want something minimal and understated or something casual but clear.

Other times you might want a big statement piece. In either instance, check out these affiliate stores below:

  • Beadle & Grimm’s
  • Bioworld
  • Design By Humans
  • Dungeons and Dragons T-shirt Club
  • Heroes & Villains
  • Zavvi

There are a lot of affiliate stores that have all manner of apparel and other merchandise. Other than shirts and jackets, you can expect socks, personalized coasters, watches, and even D&D-inspired bags.

Choosing between clothes is a bit like prepping your character’s gear. First, ask yourself how many articles of clothing you want. Then, decide on a design that matches your taste.

Many of these brands have different art styles that are worlds apart from each other. Additionally, you have to pick whether you want a normal D&D design or something more specific than the game logo.

If you’re feeling extra, consider a few vintage artworks from the games’ earlier history. Couple that with a few class-specific apparels and several depicting the greatest villains in the game, and you’re all set.

Just like a warlock can pick and choose between invocations, so too can you between these different clothes. The sky’s the limit here, and all that’s really stopping you is your own fashion taste. So wear your colors proudly and remember to be proud of your hobby!

Pins and Jewelry

Sometimes, subtlety may be more your thing, and that’s perfectly understandable. Not everyone can rock a DnD hoodie or sweatshirt. For some people, small but valuable is the way to go, and for that, you can choose pins and jewelry.

Infinity and Rock love jewelry are Wizards affiliates and can provide you with some detailed and beautiful pieces. Most of these items are made of sterling silver or zinc alloy, while some of these have some nearly magical properties.

Rock love jewelry has some choice interactive jewelry for you with different elements to play around with. Most of them are representative of character classes in the game, perfect when you want to rep your favorite class. The best part is: It isn’t that far off to believe that your characters would wear something just as classy as this.

Meanwhile, Infinity plays around with augmented reality on their pieces. With a quick scan of their app, pins turn into amazing interactive digital artworks. Whether rolling initiative on them or seeing monster stats, expect to be wowed by their effects that seem almost magical!

With the right apparel, you are one step closer to feeling like a true adventurer. Always remember to make sure these items are the eBay fit for you and to attune to them well. With any luck, they’ll increase your stats in more ways than you can count.

Games of Skill and Chance

While D&D is the granddaddy of tabletop RPGs, that doesn’t mean that there’s only one way to play it. Many games have incorporated the D&D flavor into a variety of their merchandise.

The result is an altogether new way to enjoy the Dungeons and Dragons universe. Whether it be through board or card games, if you enjoy fantasy, these will be right up your lane.

MTG Adventures in the Forgotten Realms

MTG Adventures in the Forgotten Realms

Worlds truly collide when both Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons meet. As a longtime fan of both, this crossover and its subsequent one: Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate, had me hyped.

In case you missed it, Magic the Gathering, or MTG, is one of the world’s oldest collectible trading card games. Also, under Wizards of the Coast, its collaboration with D&D was only a matter of time.

For fans of both, you can now enjoy the unique plane of the forgotten realms as a battleground for powerful creatures, iconic planeswalkers, and destructive instants and sorceries.

If this is your first time with MTG, consider buying a deck to play with. Otherwise, collect some new mythic cards and legendaries for your deck.

Included here are references to favorite characters from the D&D world, such as Bruenor Battlehammer or Tiamat. Other mechanics include dice rolling, dungeon delving, and one of the most important parts of combat: seizing the initiative.

Prices in MTG tend to vary depending on how powerful a card is. If you want to buy booster packs, expect these to be around 7 dollars. Sure, you’ll be trying your luck, but then again, you’re an adventurer. You’re always trying your luck.

Traditional Board Games and Toys

Traditional Board Games and Toys

Surprise, surprise, DnD also has six other unique board games and a toy line for you to experience the fantasy world. Now that you’ve recovered from your condition let’s go through all of them.

  • Warriors of Krynn
  • The Great Dalmuti: Dungeons and Dragons
  • D&D Adventure Begins
  • Dungeons of Mayhem
  • Lords of Waterdeep
  • The Legend of Drizzt Boardgame
  • Funko Pop

All of these are unique and fun experiences. However, what makes them so distinct is that the tone they convey is a refreshing and unique twist on the DnD world.

Take, for example, the warriors of Krynn. While still under development, the board game is meant to simulate massive battles with you commanding entire armies. Expect this to be released by the end of 2022 for more details.

If all-out war isn’t your thing, Lords of Waterdeep puts you in the center of intrigue in one of the greatest cities in DnD lore. Put plots into play and manipulate adventurers to advance your goal in this game of subterfuge.

Meanwhile, the adventure begins, and Dungeons of Mayhem puts you in a more adventure-type role. Adventure Begins with the roles of Dungeon Master and Player, while Dungeons of Mayhem has four players playing characters in an exciting four-way duel.

Another way to appreciate the game is through specialized figurines available as Funko Pop. Unlike miniatures, these are toys for display that represent some amazing creatures. I myself have an ancient red dragon guarding my socks back home.

To experience the world of DnD through a pair of fresh eyes, consider some of these games and toys. While not quite the real thing, you’ll be more than entertained by the end of it. Besides, once you’re done, maybe the party is finally ready for another session of adventuring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Where Can I Find Official Dungeons and Dragons Merchandise Near Me?

Answer: The primary place to buy DnD merchandise is at local game stores, bookstores, and affiliate shops. Many retailers, however, sell these items, such as on Amazon, Gamestop, and many more.

The quickest way to locate a local game store is to use the find a store function on the official D&D website. Otherwise, check up on affiliate stores and online retailers that ship worldwide.

Other ways to find official merchandise are through auction sites or third-party apps, like eBay, Poshmark, and Depop. The item may be pre-loved, but the condition may remain pristine. Just remember that the cost of each item is up to the sellers’ discretion.

Official merchandise will always go back to support the developers, so ensure that where you shop is at an affiliate store of Wizards of the Coast. While you may choose to shop at an independent vendor selling items under fair use policy, do so at your own risk.

Question: What Dungeons and Dragons Merch is Available?

Answer: Almost every conceivable item you can think of can be found online. Articles of clothing, in-game items made real, and even dragon heads made of resin are all available if you know where to look.

You can practically cover your entire house and your family and friends with all types of DnD merch. Meanwhile, if you don’t mind a little risk, consider commissioning an item from an independent seller.

Question: How much is Dungeons and Dragons Merchandise?

Answer: Official Dungeons and Dragons merchandise will always have their price reflect the quality of the product. Depending on what you are buying, they may range from under a dollar to hundreds of dollars.

A good metric for considering prices is that the median price for most merch and accessories costs around 20 to 50 dollars. This, however, doesn’t include shipping, so watch out. For the hardcore, however, shelling out a few hundred bucks for something one of a kind shouldn’t be a problem.

Conclusion

Browsing through all the different types of merch available for sale is almost akin to a trip through the Grand Bazaar in the City of Brass: wondrous and exciting; while this guide aims to be as comprehensive as it can be, there may be a few more select pieces out there that this old adventurer has missed.

Particularly, unofficial merch from talented creators was intentionally left out to keep new buyers within a safe purchasing environment.

For more experienced adventurers, don’t be afraid to help out some independent artists if you deem their works worth it. Just ensure that they aren’t committing copyright infringement and are honest artisans.

With that being said, it’s time to get out there and make a few purchases. With any luck, you’ll be back in time for another amazing adventure. Have fun purchasing DnD merchandise, adventurers, and take care.
